Converter may refer to:
- A conduit in which the input object is not of the same type as the output object.
- A synthesis component that can be used in an incremental synthesis to transform an object into another object.
Conduits
A converter is a conduit that takes one type of active object (such as a glider or a century) as an input, and turns it into another (such as a middleweight spaceship or a Herschel). Examples include the 45-degree MWSS-to-G, the syringe and the SW-2T21.
If the output spaceship is more complex than the input spaceship, this can be called an upconverter; contrariwise, a conduit which converts a more complex object into a simpler one is a downconverter.
