Loading dock is a period-3 oscillator that was found by David Buckingham in September 1972.

It has a stator variant with larger population but smaller bounding box, named six Ls due to one phase consisting of six L-tetrominoes (tails), as shown below.

Synthesis

A 14-glider synthesis for loading dock and a 20-glider synthesis for six Ls were found by Jeremy Tan on March 29, 2019 based on soups submitted to Catagolue. The latter was improved to 18 gliders by Mark Niemiec two days later.

In December 2020, GUYTU6J found a 13-glider synthesis of a stator variant of this oscillator based on a suggestion from gmc_nxtman dating to November 2015. In January 2023, Chris857 found a 10-glider synthesis of that stator variant as well as a 17-glider synthesis of six Ls. In January 2023, Carson Cheng found a 10-glider synthesis of six Ls tying the cost of the other stator variant. On September 3, 2023, May13 found a 12-glider synthesis of loading dock.
