Discovered by Tanner Jacobi
Year of discovery 2015

p58 pre-pulsar shuttle is a period-58 shuttle oscillator discovered by Tanner Jacobi on April 25, 2015.[1] It was the smallest known oscillator of that period until the discovery of p58 pi-heptomino hassler in 2022. The previous record holder was the Snark-based period 58 glider loop.

Jeremy Tan and iNoMed found a glider synthesis for a stator variant[2] of this oscillator in July 2021.[3] Tan later found a 188-glider synthesis for the canonical version on September 11, 2021.[4] The syntheses were reduced by one glider (to 187 and 57 gliders respectively) in March 2023,[5] with further reductions in June 2023.[6][7]
