R49 is a dependent elementary conduit, discovered by Luka Okanishi on October 4, 2019 based on a reaction by Entity Valkyrie.[1] After 49 ticks, it produces a Herschel turned right with a displacement of (-1, 22). Its recovery time is 59 ticks.

It is notable that unlike other dependent conduits such as Lx200, this conduit starts with a five-tick Herschel predecessor instead of three, and was the first conduit documented as such. After reacting with the bait block and another catalyst, an R-pentomino emerges and proceeds in a BFx59H reaction. The catalyst, consisting of a copy of xs19_08e1eoz69d11 supported by an eater 1, is often called the R49 catalyst because of its use in the R49 conduit.

The pattern shown in the infobox has a ghost Herschel marking the output location. A second copy of the conduit is included in the pattern, to the left of the working copy, with a ghost Herschel marking the correct input location.
