Snake dance is a period-3 oscillator that was found by Robert Wainwright in May 1972.[1] It has the same tub-like rotor as the snake pit 2 shown below.
Glider synthesis
A 16-glider synthesis for snake dance was found by Jeremy Tan on March 29, 2019 based on a symmetric soup submitted to Catagolue.[2] Long before that, a 6-glider synthesis for snake pit 2, which is four gliders symmetrically hitting a pre-traffic light, has been known and is listed on Mark Niemiec's page.
Commonness
It is the second most common period-3 oscillator in C4_1 (odd fourfold rotational symmetry), being about eight times as common as the third-place snake pit 2. Second through sixth place all have the same rotor.
