Talk:Rob's p16/Snippet

Just to let you know, this snippet won't appear on the main page at the moment. Template:FeaturedArticle looks at a predetermined list of the 53 snippets that already existed and displays one corresponding to the current week. If we want to display this one on the main page, we'll have to delete another. Of course, given how much has changed in CGOL since the snippets were originally chosen, we might have to make way for some others as well, e.g. Sir Robin/Snippet. But that might be worth discussing on the LifeWiki:Tiki bar. Ian07 (talk) 04:47, 1 June 2020 (UTC)

Ooops, thanks for your reminder. Indeed I noticed that there is no snippet for the 0E0P metacell, the 2-engine Cordership or the Sir Robin, but I didn't know that the number of snippets is fixed. (Otherwise, someone would have already written one for Rob's p16 upon its discovery.)
It makes sense that snippet writing should be limited, stricter than normal article editing, for that featured articles are for the main page. However, I don't see why we need to restrict the total number of snippets. A quick skim of Template:FeaturedArticle convinces me that the index of week is associated directly with the snippet to show. Maybe we can write more for the snippet pool, and decide which to display by modifying the code (say, yearly). GUYTU6J (talk) 06:32, 1 June 2020 (UTC)
