Highest volatility p7s?
This p7 isn't mentioned anywhere on the wiki. I don't know if this specific oscillator needs its own page, but this one tops the list, so maybe a page similar to the p3s, p5s, and p6s can be created (and unlike the rest, there's no known volatility 1 p7). - It is done, Highest volatility period-7 oscillators, I made the volatility threshold lower because there are fewer known (though my program only sorted the Catagolue census csv, there are likely non-natural ones, though explicit oscillator search programs struggle at higher periods), and mentioned the heart-looking thing's tetramerisation. Editing Lifeline articles
Thanks for working through Lifeline Volume 11, constructing patterns, correcting OCR mistakes, etc. It's been a big help! If you do decide to edit this page further, please take a look at the pages for volumes 4 through 10 (and their page source) to see how previous pages were formatted. Try to match the formatting of these existing lifelines. Specifically, note the following:
- The hyphen and line break should be removed from words hyphenated over a line break.
- A combination of the {{LV:Viewer}} and {{LifeViewer config/lifeline}} templates should be used instead of {{EmbedViewer}}. See the source for Lifeline volumes 4 through 10 for how to do this properly. Galleries should not be used.
- Tables should be formatted as wikitables, not as monospaced blocks.
- The patterns in the viewer thumbnails should strive to match the position and area of the patterns as displayed in the original scans, typically with at least one row/column of dead cells around the border of the pattern (live cells shouldn't touch the border of the thumbnail except in cases where there is a wick or the pattern is on a bounded grid).
- Text in viewer thumbnails should be large and easy to read
- Avoid using nonstandard rules like LifeHistory in thumbnails

The War of Big Theta
Quoting from LifeWiki:Notability: "To prevent overenthusiastic edits and conflicts of interest, a commonly accepted rule is that the discoverer of a pattern, inventor of new terminology, writer of a program, etc., etc., should not be the one to document that pattern, term, or program on the LifeWiki."
I think your repeated attempts to rename the Logarithmic replicator rule go against that. They are obviously overenthusiastic, and neither of the proposed new names is commonly used by people in conversations.
The existing name might fail to be perfect, but it is the existing name actually used by people in conversations. Names do not have to be completely logical. Confocal (talk) 22:21, 21 October 2023 (UTC)
- Lies. Calling B34/S23 "Switch engine" would be ok in your sense, but it is not - it just explodes. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Haycat2009 (talk • contribs) 06:07, 22 October 2023
- If this is meant to be a claim of some kind, it is hard to read and understand. (1) Why exactly you would want to call B34/S23 "Switch engine"? (2) How this is supposed to be relevant to naming of Logarithmic replicator rule? Confocal (talk) 07:17, 22 October 2023 (UTC)
- I think Haycat2009 was likening your repeated insistence of use of an incorrect word (that apg initially put in place in an edit to its entry in the gun page, without thought to verify it or awareness that it would be given a page of its own) to creating nonsense terminology.
- Cf. the tiki bar discussion, whereupon I made another message of my own.
- I think the best course of action for the two of us, from this point in the situation, will be to wait for one of the moderators to make an executive decision, lest it comprise an edit war, sorry for the overzealousness on my part. DroneBetter (talk) 17:15, 29 October 2023 (UTC)
- Re: "likening" -- if so, then such a likening is incorrect. The obvious difference is that forum search for "logarithmic replicator rule" returns multiple results that show that the existing name of the rule is in common use. At the same time, searching for "b34 switch" does not return anything relevant that could possibly serve as a substantiation for 'Calling B34/S23 "Switch engine"'. Confocal (talk) 23:11, 30 October 2023 (UTC)
- Sorry for the lack of explanation. The point is, since someone noticed a wrong fact, why should it not be corrected? For example, if a user was constantly saying that "Cribbage does not exist as life is provably not omniperiodic", should their edits not be corrected? A year ago, we had no cribbage. Likewise, a decade ago, everybody thought that the replicator was a Log(T) replicator. But now we are smarter, have self-corrected, we should embrace the change. Last time, reverting an edit moving "Log replicator rule" to "Sqrt replicator rule" was correcting vandalism. Now it is the opposite. So correct the fact and your mindset.Haycat2009 (talk) 06:05, 1 November 2023 (UTC)
- You are either missing or intentionally ignoring that names do not need to be logical. The only common name of the rule in question is Logarithmic replicator rule. Confocal (talk) 06:11, 1 November 2023 (UTC)

Note that there are some mistaken replacements in this, e.g. the first paragraph, the line after b01236s, and probably in other places. Confocal (talk) 16:44, 29 October 2023 (UTC)
- Thank you, I did a passthrough after the finding and replacing but it seems a few slipped through the cracks.
- Also note, the line after b01236s wasn't an error, it seems only to be that MediaWiki truncates things in diffs once pages become too large. DroneBetter (talk) 17:15, 29 October 2023 (UTC)
