User talk:Entity Valkyrie 2/Pseudo-p82 glider gun
The known-but-interesting mechanism explained in this article might make sense as an embedded example pattern under the "Pseudo-period guns" section in the Guns article, but it doesn't seem like a good stand-alone article. The pattern is unnecessarily big. It has a slightly non-standard name -- ordinarily it would be something like "Pseudo-p82 gun" or "Pseudo-period-82 glider gun". The article was created by the inventor of the pattern, which is, um, quite often not a good idea.
Here's a smaller pattern that includes both a true-period p82 gun (right) and a pseudo-period 82 gun (left and right together). Not sure if this would ultimately be less or more confusing as an example of the distinction between "true" and "pseudo", though!

There are quite a few other possible periods for which this kind of trick will work, including various infinite series of periods using adjustable reflectors -- e.g., an NW31 with two welded Snarks turning a SE glider output onto the NE edge-shooting glider output. - I have already stated that this gun MAY NOT BE NOTABLE, It's only the conduit I'm considered about that created 2 glider in the exact same lane without using reflectors or edge shooters. This gun was just one example use of this conduit because it is 82 ticks difference. Entity Valkyrie (talk) 20:35, 30 November 2018 (UTC)
- There are at least five of these H-to-G0 conduits known now -- three in the Elementary Conduits collection, with spacings between gliders of 119, 124, and 324, and the "SW-2T21_SW-2T103" one in this article, and one found by gmc_nxtman a couple of years ago, "NW31T120_NW31T378", with a glider spacing of 258. Neither of the last two have made it into the collection yet -- as usual the ECC is in need of an update.
- It looks like "H-to-G0" is a term that has gotten enough general use now that it would be a good new LifeWiki page, with a link to the Gn Life Lexicon article, and a link to it from the Gn article. Probably H-to-G0 wouldn't have an infobox, since there's no single H-to-G0 that the term refers to. It could have a stamp collection of the known H-to-G0s. Does that seem like a reasonable idea to everyone?
- The key differences between creating an "H-to-G0" page versus creating something like "Pseudo-p82 glider gun" are that 1) someone else invented the term, 2) several people are using the term, and 3) someone might actually see "H-to-G0" somewhere else and want to try looking it up on the LifeWiki.
