Grammar

A grammar is a set of rules for connecting components together to make an object such as a spaceship, oscillator or still life.

For example, ants can be either wide or narrow while still maintaining the spatial (and hence temporal) periodicity 5, but they can also be much longer while retaining the same style of movement. There is a grammar, derived from de Bruijn diagrams, that spells out the rules for this.
