EDIT by dvgrn: Moved this out of Herschel conduits thread, because it's not a Herschel-to-Herschel conduit. It might go in the H-to-G thread, except that this the output glider is the standard SW-2 output glider. There could possibly be some sparks around the edges that could be useful somehow, so I didn't quite want to delete the post outright. p5 pi-heptomino to U-turner

Code: Select all

x = 23, y = 13, rule = B3/S23
6b2o$5bo2bo$o2bo2bobo$5obob2o$6b2o2bo$2bob2o3b3o$bobob2o2b3o$bo2b2o3b

the way it outputs the U keeps it from connecting to a solid chunk of known U-turner accepting conduits, so it's usefulness at the moment is meh at best, although a conduit with catalysts only "above" the U would connect so that might be worth exploring.

Dirty H-to-2G:

Code: Select all

x = 28, y = 31, rule = LifeHistory
26.2C$26.C$24.C.C$5.A18.2C$5.3A$8.A$7.2A8$25.2C$25.2C$7.E$7.E.E$7.3E$

This is actually 3H-to-2G.

I found a TL+Boat reaction at the beginning of a H conduit.
This reaction explodes but is in the empty space of the partial conduit.
It delivers a natural B which evolves in H.

Code: Select all

x = 46, y = 44, rule = LifeHistory

I already found some useful patterns (also some useless :)) as you can see here :
viewtopic.php?f=2&t=1682&p=175792#p175792 (H-to-G)
viewtopic.php?f=2&t=1828&p=175795#p175795 (Still Life Factories)
viewtopic.php?f=2&t=4994&p=175800#p175800 (dirties H-to-G)

I really think this reaction deserves more research than mine.

Edit:
Better visualization and get the exact envelope of the bringing reaction.

That transparent pond reaction seems to be another example of what the transparent block reaction and G-to-X (November 2023) were. Perhaps a dedicated wiki entry could be added to collect discoveries?

Edit : an engineering solution but rather slow RT225 ...
Looks like there's also enough clearance that this could be done with a glider to block, keeping the minimal repeat time (as long as you don't mind prepending some bulky stuff to pre-deliver a glider to the glider-to-block at the right time.)

I feel like you.
I just went on bad side I think.
There's a NW lane which works with this G-to-Block.
I didn't explore further, feeling that it would be too big ...

Without the Jubjub reflector, the first natural glider of the output Herschel goes on a lane exactly between two other gliders in the same direction, and all three gliders have to be somehow eaten, to avoid damaging the contraption.
Before that, I tried several more compact possibilities, but the glider going to the G-to-block arrived either too soon or too late. Most likely there is something along these lines that is both reasonably compact and working, though.

The shifted glider can delete the top blinker if is in right timing (Jubjub reflector doesn't work sadly, need a CP_180°_0hd).
Note that "CP" and "CC" refer to colour-preserving and colour-changing respectively (positioning of glider lanes, rather than timing). In particular, all "same lane" 180-degree reflectors are necessarily colour-changing (CC).

I believe deletion of that blinker could be done with a same-lane 180-degree reflector with a different parity (glider delayed or advanced by an odd number of ticks).
Unfortunately, all same-lane stable 180-degree reflectors I know about have the exact same timing (which matches the timing of the longboat used as a one-time 0hd 180-degree reflector):
