reply to unname, since I think I got quoted: no luck finding the eater thus far. I remember it being posted somewhere between 2015 to 2019 in the patterns subforum along with some other xwss eaters and partial eaters. I can be very wrong on this though.

the glider eating part is however much easier to find: https://conwaylife.com/wiki/Eater#Glide ... overy_time (7)

Honestly, this should be locked. Random Posts-esque stuff shouldn't be allowed at all, to be honest.

As I said in an earlier post in this thread,

The purpose of the thread is stated in the opening post. However, I want to stress, as I did in the opening post, that this is not a "random posts" thread.
This thread is meant for miscellaneous posts and discussions that don't warrant their own thread. Generally, it's best if they are CA related, although other topics are allowed.

"Show subject" is on by default.
Sorry, I don't think I follow. Is there in issue with how the forums are being displayed for you?

Um... can someone lock this thread?

I don't really understand bumping an existing thread with a comment suggesting that the thread be locked, without providing a specific reason. For rule-violating posts there is the report button. You can simply ignore threads you don't like or are not interested in.
Even when e.g. the main initial purpose of a thread is accomplished, I think it makes sense to leave the thread open for any further relevant discussion.

Challenge idea: find a non-engineered Herschel-to-glider converter that can follow the syringe and complete it into a closed track composed of two elementary conduits.

The clearance is good enough that you can feed it into itself (not quite good enough to fit two in the circuit, though):

While a ship costs 3 gliders, a certain ship-and-glider combination still costs 3 gliders and catagolue has a synthesis that implicitly uses it:

Code: Select all

#C [[ GRID MAXGRIDSIZE 14 THEME Catagolue ]]
#CSYNTH xs13_178czy8okc costs 4 gliders (pseudo).
#CLL state-numbering golly

I suspect that they can reduce some syntheses involving a tie.

Out of curiosity, why "period-agnostic"? I thought period-agnostic would refer to a reaction that is useful for creating oscillators of different periods. This 117P9H3V0 eater probably can be described as "pseudo-stable" or "phase-agnostic" (it has a state and contains an oscillator, but works as if it was stable and stateless).

Continued from my last post here, two more random results for syntheses.
Dirty 4-glider boat-tie edge-shooter:

Code: Select all

#C [[ GRID MAXGRIDSIZE 14 THEME Catagolue ]]

The boat-tie formation is different from that in the known dirty 3-glider one:

Dirty 4-glider corner-first shillelagh edge-shooter:

Again compare the evolution with the following known example:

#CSYNTH xs12_66w3pm costs 4 gliders (pseudo).
#CLL state-numbering golly

How do you search through 4-glider syntheses to look for constellations containing a still life that costs 4G?

What exactly is so special about this October? We have seen a number of newcomers making many threads for OCA rules. Apart from this one, they (123456789) tend to have rather simple rule definitions and only a handful of objects to start a discussion with. Is this because more general threads as incubators are ignored?

EDIT: there are three more (123). And no, I will not think B35/S23 as a succesful rule before it develops reusable signal circuits. Even if my opinion does not matter, I would not approve of that LifeWiki article.

Maybe they're seeing the success of B35/S23 and trying to copy it? Just a guess.
