Currently working to improve Life's guns and work on updating SKOPs and Isotropic rules most similar to B3/S23 to Life standards. Will get software to begin searches eventually.

just found this reaction that pulls a krake and puffs out two boats:
Code: Select all
x = 28, y = 10, rule = B3/S23
13b2o$12bo2bo$2o3b2o8bo5b2o3b2o$obobobo7bo6bobobobo$2bobo8bo9bobo$2bo
bo8bo9bobo$3bo18bo3bo$13bo8bobobo$22bo3bo$23b3o!
it's useless for now until we find something that can perturb the krake like that. afterwards, it might be possible to find a c/n or 5c/n krakepuller.

I would avoid calling that "natural", because the initial configuration is clearly "engineered" to make it work. Move the glider at the bottom two cells up or down, and it will not work.
It would become a natural way for
xs12_178c0ca4 to form, if and when some
soup happened to evolve into that particular reaction.

Testing out some oscillator reduction code, found two variants of double caterer. The one on the left has one less row, providing a bit more clearance for the sparks. The one at right has one fewer column. Both have population one less than the original double caterer. Maybe not new, probably not useful.

"Least common multiple" oscillators typically get notability due to being smallest(*) known oscillators of a given period, at least at some point in history (see for example
Mold on fire-spitting).
The p210 oscillator you posted is a 146P210 (minimum population 146, period 210). There's already a known 46P210:
https://catagolue.hatsya.com/object/xp2 ... 1y33/b3s23 which means your oscillator doesn't set or tie for a record.
(*): "smallest", measuring by the minimum population.

Helloshe, I like pentadecathlons and small-period motifs.
I may not be very skilled in search programs, but I have many ideas.
Soli Deo Gloria!

But it has a smaller bounding box. (13x17 vs 16x17)
Guns are measured by BB, oscillators are measured by population.
Currently working to improve Life's guns and work on updating SKOPs and Isotropic rules most similar to B3/S23 to Life standards. Will get software to begin searches eventually.

Hopefully slightly more accurately,
- Glider guns are traditionally measured by the area of the bounding box (of the union of all phases excluding only escaped output gliders), which is defined per the following readme.txt file in an updated version of Dieter and Peter's Gun Collection:
https://entropymine.com/jason/life/dpguns/readme.txt
- In the context of questions like "what are smallest known oscillators of a given period?" oscillators are usually measured by the minimum single-phase population.
There might be two or more phases with the same minimum population, but the minimum population itself is a well-defined number.
In principle, nothing prevents starting and maintaining a separate collection for smallest known oscillators, measured in some other way (bounding box area of the union of all phases; minimum bounding box area of a single phase;
MCPS of the union of all phases; minimum MCPS of a single phase; ...)
Alternatively, one could collect all known oscillators in a machine-readable format, and implement automated queries to answer every such question from a single maintained data source.

Arks? If so, Noah had a really bad construction manual.

An appropriately-modified Gosper glider gun can be used as a glider reflector:
Code: Select all
x = 36, y = 35, rule = B3/S23
