Mangos apparently now do FTL travel?
Code: Select all
x = 5, y = 9, rule = B3/S23

It is impossible to travel faster than light, even your example is below that speed; but fastest spaceships travels at c/2, and that is faster (5/6 c or something):
Code: Select all
x = 18, y = 54, rule = B3/S23

obo$6bobo$7bo2$7bo$6bobo$7bobo$8bo2$8bo$7bobo$6bobo$7bo2$7bo$6bobo$7b
obo$8bo!
The only way to have anything moving faster than light, is to have signals sent in opposite directions, and the receivers get information about what the other receiver gets in "real time" so one can argue that information travelled faster than light, with infinite speed, but really that's is not factually correct, since the actual information traveled from the middle at lightspeed or lower. I mean, the update rule of Conway's game of life is very much guarantying this, so that should not be a surprise, and the "telegraph" is the one pattern that manage to propagate information at the best possible speed here.

It's an illusion.

What Jormungant is saying is that even the "illusion" doesn't travel above c.

It travels at 5c/6. This is not an illusion because it can be used to transmit information at that speed:
Code: Select all
x = 5, y = 19, rule = B3/S23

And it will probably be useful. Idk why I posted it in useless discoveries right before thinking something useful can probably be made from it.

This is faster, and - as all fuses - can transmit "information" only once: "I was here"

It could be fun to find a higher-range rule that is "almost Life" (almost all objects and contraptions would work unchanged), but there were some highly unnatural circumstances where a cell could directly affect another non-adjacent cell, allowing for "faster-than-light communication".

The rightmost is not the
Snark .
It's the same eaters position and the same block position.
Just the lowest catalyst is changed by a second block.

Block + dove → bi-pond:
Code: Select all
x = 5, y = 9, rule = B3/S23

This weld just feels so… out of place(originally found in michelife9, and I found out that it works in normal Life):

Cross posting from the "let's find a g-to-x" thread, here's a G-to-beehive. Partial by me and completion by iNoMed.
Solved the reaction in the rightmost column of row 5 using a previously-discovered hyper-edgy beehive eater:
Code: Select all
x = 22, y = 27, rule = B3/S23

Code: Select all

did not find a catalyst that removes the bottom hive cleanly (the usual eater works, but later on it is too close from the active object), so I guess the two best thing would be a factory that restore a sacrificial block/hive, but I did not mange to find one for that too.

Cross posting from the "let's find a g-to-x" thread, here's a G-to-beehive. Partial by me and completion by iNoMed.
Partial for a 180-degree reflector, just need to turn an annoying Herschel into the sacrificial object:

Well, works nicely with my "actually working" stable reflector:
Code: Select all
x = 100, y = 83, rule = LifeHistory

This catalyst combination uses a glider to rotate a beehive by 90 degrees:
