A very messy one in a similar rule:

This 2D chaotic replicator:

Code: Select all

x = 2, y = 4, rule = B3-y4ek5y/S2-i34t6c
o$o$2o!
...is only 2 transitions away from this 1D clean replicator:

Code: Select all

x = 2, y = 4, rule = B3-y4e5y6i/S2-i34t6c
o$2o$o!
Both rules are explosive, but the rule in between is not (and quite interesting), despite it may look like so:

Code: Select all

x = 166, y = 67, rule = B3-y4e5y/S2-i34t6c
10$9b2o$9b2o4$9b3o$9bobo2$158b2o$157bo2bo$158b2o4$10b2o$10b2o3$65b2o$
65b2o23bo8bo$90b2o6bobo$90bo8bo30$92b2o$92b2o!
The t is still a failed replicator in that rule.

One transition away from that rule has a puffer which is arguably a failed replicator:

Code: Select all

x = 2, y = 4, rule = B3-y5y/S2-i34t6c
o$2o$o!
Conclusion: the four rules within 2 transitions from one another each surprisingly holds a different kind of (failed) replicator.

But, there are more:
In a rule 3 transitions from the last rule above, there is a totally different kind of failed replicator which would have succeeded its first replication if weren't for four gliders:

Code: Select all

x = 4, y = 3, rule = B34i5y/S2-i34ct6c
b2o$o2bo$b2o!

Clean quadratic replicator with sparks that last longer than the underlying engine's p198 cycle. I think this is the minimal clean unit, which would make it Q-type with speed 70c/792d:

Many of these trigger a "So what?" question in the mind. Surely it can be interesting at first, and I guess it can be interesting to those who are really into collecting many examples. However, for an average forum reader, it basically looks and feels like rows of examples of the same concept.

I'm not exactly opposed to collecting lots of examples of the same thing, but there has to be a much better way of doing that. People who are contributing to the 5S project have what I believe to be a much better way of sharing their contributions (check posts in the 5S forum thread).

For another example, check viewtopic.php?f=11&t=6026#p201987 "Thread for your completed searches using any software". In the most recent post there for example, I didn't post an Annoyingly Long Row of Short Snippets(TM). Instead I posted one example, then attached raw search results in an attachment, and posted filtered results as a single snippet with one result per line.

Here in this thread, I see many snippets that contain the same initial pattern, except with differing rulestrings specified. It would be enough to post a single snippet with one result per line, people who care about collecting/investigating replicators should be able to use that without difficulty. A few especially interesting examples could be posted separately, but posting all of them in separate snippets quickly becomes annoying.

This rule has a simple line-of-six replicator:

Flipping a few transitions yielded me a 9c/42 order-4 replicator:

All of the below were found using EPE+a script to view random results quickly.

Interesting looking failedrep:

Code: Select all

x = 3, y = 4, rule = B3aijr4iqz5ery6c7c/S2-i3-a4ci5aeqr6a7c
o$2o$b2o$2o!
This one is failed, but for some reason it doesn't create debris for a while, and grows in a sort of cat pupil shape:

Code: Select all

x = 3, y = 4, rule = B3aijr4iq5ey7c/S2-i3-ay4ei5ciqr6ik
o$2o$b2o$2o!
Wiggly oblique replicator wick that generates streams of ships:

Code: Select all

x = 3, y = 4, rule = B3aijr4iq5er7c/S2-i3-a4ei5cqr6ack7
o$2o$b2o$2o!
Linear rep that has interesting gaps appear and disappear in its output:

Code: Select all

x = 3, y = 4, rule = B3aijry4ceiq5r7c/S2-i3-a4ci5eijkq6k7c
o$2o$b2o$2o!
Nonstandard clean linear rep:

Code: Select all

x = 12, y = 4, rule = B3aijry4iqz5y7c8/S2-i3-a4i5aikqr7c
2bo6bo$b2o6b2o$2o8b2o$b2o6b2o!
Another nonstandard linear rep:

Code: Select all

x = 3, y = 4, rule = B3aijr4iq5ery7c/S2-i3-a4i5ijq6aik
o$2o$b2o$2o!
Nice 2D rep:

Code: Select all

x = 3, y = 4, rule = B3aijr4eiqz5r7c/S2-i3-a4ei5cijkq6ck7e
o$2o$b2o$2o!
Really bizarre 2D rep that fails pretty late. I don't think it can be saved, which is a shame:

Code: Select all

x = 3, y = 4, rule = B3aijr4iqz5ry6c7c8/S2-i3-a4i5-ny6-in7c
o$2o$b2o$2o!
Very satisfying clean oblique 2D rep:

Code: Select all

x = 3, y = 4, rule = B3aijr4iqz5ery6c7c/S2-i3-a4ci5aijqr6ae
o$2o$b2o$2o!
Insane 2D rep:

Code: Select all

x = 3, y = 4, rule = B3aijr4eiq5ey6ci7c/S2-i3-a4cei5cijq6ak7e8
o$2o$b2o$2o!
Similar but diagonal:

Code: Select all

x = 3, y = 4, rule = B3aijr4eiqz5ery6c7c8/S2-i3-ay4i5-cnry6ai7
o$2o$b2o$2o!
Similar, but moving in the opposite direction:

Code: Select all

x = 3, y = 4, rule = B3aijry4iq5e6i7c/S2-i3-a4ei5acijq6ac
o$2o$b2o$2o!
The growth rate of the above seems to be somewhere around t^1.3 if measured at t = 2^n. I'm not really sure what it is exactly, but I imagine it is analytic.

Strange looking loops:

Code: Select all

x = 3, y = 4, rule = B3aijr4iq5r6c7c8/S2-i3-ay4i5aeikq6-an7
o$2o$b2o$2o!
Time offset, doubly oblique, clean linear rep:

Code: Select all

x = 3, y = 4, rule = B3aijr4iqz6i7c/S2-i3-ay4ei5acijq6aek7c
o$2o$b2o$2o!
Also very time offset:

Code: Select all

x = 3, y = 4, rule = B3aijry4iqz5er6ci7c/S2-i3-ay4ei5-ckny6aci7c
o$2o$b2o$2o!
Chaotic yet clean 2D rep, somehow. This is probably the weirdest result here:

Code: Select all

x = 3, y = 4, rule = B3aijr4iq5ry7c/S2-i3-a4cei5akq6-en7
o$2o$b2o$2o!
I really wish this didn't break:

Code: Select all

x = 3, y = 4, rule = B3aijr4eiq5ry6ci7c/S2-i3-a4ei5ajkqr6ak7c
o$2o$b2o$2o!
Double forward Sierpinski replicators:

Code: Select all

x = 3, y = 4, rule = B3aijr4ceiqz5r7c/S2-i3-a4i5eijkq6aei
o$2o$b2o$2o!
Kindly printing out the evolution of whatever 1D rule this is:

Code: Select all

x = 3, y = 4, rule = B3aijry4iqz5y6i7c/S2-i3-a4ci5ajq6aei
2o$b2o$2o$o!
Yet another 2D rep type I have never seen:

Code: Select all

x = 3, y = 4, rule = B3aijr4ciq5ey7c8/S2-i3-ay4i5ekq6ei
o$2o$b2o$2o!
Space nonfillers?

Code: Select all

x = 3, y = 4, rule = B3aijr4ceiq5y6c7c/S2-i3-a4ci5aciqr6k8
2o$b2o$2o$o!
Different nonstandard clean 2D:

Code: Select all

x = 3, y = 4, rule = B3aijr4ceiq5er6i7c/S2-i3-a4ei5-ekny
2o$b2o$2o$o!
Similar to some of the previous 'insane' ones, but in a diamond shape:

Code: Select all

x = 3, y = 4, rule = B3aijry4ciqz5ry6ci7c/S2-i3-ay4i5ceijq6aei7c8
2o$b2o$2o$o!
Similar to a Zhabotinsky spiral:

Code: Select all

x = 3, y = 4, rule = B3aijr4eiqz5e6i7c/S2-i3-a4ei5ijq6e8
2o$b2o$2o$o!

Code: Select all

x = 3, y = 4, rule = B3aijry4eiqz5ery6ci7c/S2-i3-a4i5-ijny6ac78
2o$b2o$2o$o!
Another clean chaos rep, that looks almost like it's from a MAP rule:

Code: Select all

x = 3, y = 4, rule = B3aijry4ceiqz5er6ci7c/S2-i3-a4ci5ceiq6ack7
2o$b2o$2o$o!
EDIT, another weird one:

Code: Select all

x = 3, y = 4, rule = B3aijry4eiqz5e6c7c/S2-i3-ay4i5-ejny6aik7e
2o$b2o$2o$o!
EDIT2, another clean, but unusual triangle:

Code: Select all

x = 3, y = 4, rule = B3aijry4eiq5y6c7c/S2-i3-a4i5eijq6ak7e
2o$b2o$2o$o!
The torch of 5S has been passed on again, and is now managed by speedydelete. It can be found here. Also check out my program EPE, a tool for searching for patterns in various rulespaces.

By LuveelVoom. A 3c/8 HROT replicator that appears to embed a 3-state high-range Wolfram rule. Note that the 3rd state is "auxillary"; it represents some sparks destroying a few replicator copies.

Code: Select all

x = 1, y = 6, rule = R3,C0,S3-6,B6
o$o$o$o$o$o!
EDIT: "||potatoes||" on discord graphed out this replicator, where the light cells are replicator-destroying sparks.

Code: Select all

x = 71, y = 36, rule = B/S012345678History

I made the observation that if you delete the odd generations and remove the (now-blank) odd columns, you get this.

Code: Select all

x = 35, y = 18, rule = B/S012345678History
17.A$16.A.A$15.A3.A$14.A5.A$13.A.A3.A.A$12.A9.A$11.A.A7.A.A$10.A3.A5.

A3.A.A17.A.A3.A.A!
Which means that this replicator embeds r=3/2 W4124 "from above"; this is similar to how many XOR replicators embed W90 from r=1/2 W6. While I have seen many r=3/2 W4124 replicators before, I have *not* ever seen one embedded "from above" the way this one is.

Currently trying to reduce the big P6 double sparker.

I really wish this didn't break:

Code: Select all

x = 3, y = 4, rule = B3aijr4eiq5ry6ci7c/S2-i3-a4ei5ajkqr6ak7c
o$2o$b2o$2o!
Maybe use second order CA?
likes interesting rules
vist my rules here
also likes weird growth patterns in CA
hyperbolic CA!!!
