The LifeViewer patterns that I posted recently have stopped working. It may be because of the Clo****are CA***HA jumping in.

I can confirm that it sometimes works and sometimes doesn't. Several viewers on the page viewtopic.php?f=11&t=1410&start=25 reported an error when I loaded it, but then worked after refreshing the page.

Yes that's possible. If so there's not much I can do about it.

This pattern was reported to be growing in "lazyslug.com", but it just splits apart on the forums.

Code: Select all

x = 22, y = 4, rule = Gooey
BAA! BAAA BLACK SHEEP, HAVE YOU ANY WOOL?
YES SIR, YES SIR, THREE BAGS FULL.
ONE FOR THE MASTER AND ONE FOR THE DAME,
AND ONE FOR THE LITTLE BOY WHO LIVES DOWN THE LANE.

When I try to pan the camera, the page at the back instead scrolls - the viewer window ignores swiping gestures.

Does it pan on embedded viewers?

Well, not, only if the bug happens. I cannot exactly describe how the bug happens, and why you cannot replicate it.

I'm specifically interested in:
  1. Does the bug happen every time?
  2. Do you see it in PopUp Viewers?
  3. Do you see it in embedded Viewers?
Thanks

1. No, just sometimes because of unknown conditions.
2. Yes.

2. Yes.
3. Yes.
And it's only dragging that has an issue:
  1. Panning the camera?
  2. Making a selection?
  3. Drawing cells?
Also when it goes wrong you can still click on the buttons?

No, that's a different issue with different behaviour.
In his case the PopUp window appears and can't be interacted with at all. In your case it's just the dragging (Pan, Select, Draw) that doesn't work.

Actually, I could interact with the window by moving the top bar out of the corner. However, it does appear to be a separate bug as I couldn’t click the settings button either.

Do you still see the issue on iOS/Safari 18?

LifeViewer build 1276.
Manually switching theme to "Golly" or "MCell" (through the user interface) unexpectedly damages the pattern.
If the same theme is requested in the snippet by a scripting command, it seems to work correctly.

LifeViewer build 1281 had completely stopped working; pressing the play button doesn't start the simulation, although the button do change to pause button.

This would completely halt my productivity in CA, as I don't use Golly or any other simulators.

I think this must be due to some change from build 1280 to build 1281, the Catagolue version (1280) works, the forums (1281) doesn't.

Code: Select all

x = 3, y = 3, rule = R1,C0,S2-3,B3,NW111101111

Fixed in build 1282. Thanks for reporting!

Please update that. Also Why lazyslug.com is still using 1276?

Suggestion:
Since we have multiple R2INT rules, why not make 2 slides to control speed, one step(default 1), one speed(default 60)? So that adjusting speed slide to a number below 60 won't display the middle generation. Add a command [[ R2INT ]] if you want, what it does is: Set the base step to 2, and identifying works slightly different.

^^ That might (or might not, up to developers to decide) make sense to do both in LifeViewer and in Golly. Allow adjusting the base step and the delay independently from each other. So it would be possible to have base step 17 with delay 2 seconds, or to have base step 1 with delay 1/8 seconds, and so on.
