PK22,
Thanks for the suggestions and link. I added the [catagolue] tag to my original post. I also thought I had another notable find last night with
xs26_06996z0bq1d96z321. There seems to be only 5 other C1 discoveries and a C2_4.

Waveguides can be combined to create interacting waveguides:

I don't know if this goes in accidental discoveries, since I discovered it by accident, or unsure discoveries, but I think it goes here, because I'm not sure about whether it's new or not.
P7 dependent beacon hassler/beacon-supported P7:
Code: Select all
x = 16, y = 16, rule = B3/S23

(minpop 54, volatility 0.53)
I personally think that this is related to 44P7.2 in some way, because they share multiple things in common, but I could be wrong.
Code: Select all
x = 19, y = 37, rule = B3/S23

the 3-glider mwss recipe actually allows a toggle switch operation by negating one of the 3 gliders:

I came upon a small D2_x symmetric

I know there are several counterexamples known already, but I feel like this particular one behaves in a very nice and simple way.
That's the bunny. (she/her)

Mango appears on generation 4585 and dissapears on generation 8391
I also caught the predecessor of the mango on generation 4584
Also 2 toads.
See
Mango.
"Mango is the twelfth most common still life on Adam P. Goucher's Catagolue, being less common than half-bakery but more common than eater 1. Among all still lifes with 8 cells, it is the second most common, being less common than pond but more common than long barge.[8] It is also the sixteenth most common object overall on Catagolue."
The fact that a mango appears during the evolution of a long-lasting methusaleh (not sure what the one you mention is, though) is not particularly unusual and likely doesn't deserve it's own thread unless it truly produced something unusual, like a very rare still-life or oscillator or pointed the way to a simpler synthesis of either the SL/Oscillator itself or a spaceship/larger oscillator/larger still life (both Toad and Mango are synthesizable in 3g, and since all 71 distinct 2g syntheses are tabulated these are minimal)
EDIT:

I knew that, I was just pointing out other 'rare' objects.
My bad, thought both messages were by the same person

Could you please merge that thread with this one?

Currently working to improve Life's guns and work on updating SKOPs and Isotropic rules most similar to B3/S23 to Life standards. Will get software to begin searches eventually.

Also, there's a actieve region in it which creates a glider and rapidly destroys it:

Anyways, we can show that any glider-constructible pattern has a polyomino predecessor. Proof sketch: Note the following polyominoes lead to a block and glider:
Code: Select all
x = 45, y = 19, rule = B3/S23
o$o2bo$4o$2b2o$2b4o$4b2o$5b2o$5b4o$7b2o$8b2o31b3o$8b2o29b5o$9b2o28b2o
2b2o$9b2o27b2o3b2o$10b2o2b2o20b4o$10b6o14bo3b4o$12b3o14b3o2b2o$13b2o
14bob4o$13b4o11b2o3b2o$15b2o11b2o!
By using the dense overpopulation connectors shown, we can connect a block-predecessor with many glider-predecessors as long as they are sufficiently well-separated. Thus we can produce any monophase slow salvo, which are known to be universal.
As a corollary, we can make a polyomino predecessor for e.g. Patterns/HashLife/Eventful/ruler.mc (with the p24 glider guns replaced by the century hassler version), which provably does not stabilize according to the
proposed definition in A383874.

If we have methods to remove the old blocks and insert new ones that can be repeated every 3 cells, we might be able to make a spaceship that pulls this along.
It will probably be easiest with slower rakes - are any p30 fireship-based rakes known?

Well if true, this would mean that land of lakes is an index fossil....
Note that at generation 9504 the posted pattern converges to a small, symmetric land of lakes predecessor. Now then there are two reasonable ways to form a land of lakes:
- Through this predecessor forming randomly without going through your posted pattern
- Your posted pattern producing the predecessor
Now the problem with the second option is that your posted pattern takes over 9000 generations an a ridiculous amount of space until forming it. Together with the pattern of activity this means that in a random soup the HF+2 blocks collision will not form a land of lakes
unless it is the only pattern around. Meanwhile, a small predecessor arising randomly is likely to form a complete land of lakes regardless of its surroundings. I couldn't find precise data on the frequency but I would guess that very few land of lakes form this way compared to the total.
