That is teardrop. It is rarely used as an induction coil, and never in the form you have posted. I think you might have meant "active region" or one of its synonyms.

Recently, I found a new cheaper method of constructing 2xN block arrays:

(7G might be possible if you can find a G+HWSS collision that releases a glider, since then it could be used in the synthesis of the other HWSS).
This reduces the cost of arbitrarily large 2xN arrays to:
  • 2x4N: 6N + 8
  • 2x4N+1: 6N + 10
  • 2x4N+2: 6N + 12
  • 2x4N+3: 6N + 15
For 2x4N, 2x4N+1, and 2x4N+2 arrays, HWSS cleanup becomes cheaper than glider cleanup for N >= 4. My previous post already proved that these can all already be constructed at a cost of less than or equal to 1G/block. 2x4N+3 is a little more interesting, however. The cheapest way to do this is to build a 2x4N+4 array, then use one glider to destroy two blocks. It is optimal to use HWSS cleanup for N >= 3, but the cost for some arrays exceeds the number of blocks:
  • 2x3: There is a 5G synthesis on Catagolue.
  • 2x7: Currently 18G, my method (with glider cleanup) suggests 17G, target is 14G.
  • 2x11: No synthesis on Catagolue, my method suggests 25G (target 22G), although RCT implies a 15G synthesis anyway.
  • 2x15: Possible in 33G, target 30G.
  • 2x19: Possible in 39G, target 38G.
  • 2x23: Possible in 45G, target 46G.
In conclusion, even without the use of RCT (or any other fixed-cost construction), a very large 2xN block array can be constructed with roughly 3N/4 gliders, and it is (currently) possible to construct all but four 2xN block arrays at a cost of less than or equal to the number of blocks. (Sooner or later, we should figure out the remaining four - some searching in Pseudo_D4_+2_Test should turn up a suitable reaction for a 2x7 synthesis).

transfer.py is a program which searches for applications of known components. I was actually referring to my C++ version of it (I gave it the same name because it is merely a translation, and because I am not good at names). It is several times faster, uses less memory, supports multithreading and restrictions on the template components set.

It seems like the most logical name would simply be 'transfer.cpp'. That distinguishes them while making it clear they're related.
