interesting R --> H + B conduit. I don't know how to get rid of the B though.

Code: Select all

x = 22, y = 14, rule = B3/S23

You don't need the eater if you move the glider to spark 1fd closer:

Code: Select all

Could someone figure out how to remove the pesky glider, perhaps by find something that generates an object to block the gliders path?

I hate transparent objects:

EDIT by dvgrn: If it's okay, I'll probably move this post to the "speculative conduits" thread.

Even if catalysts could be added to turn the boat back into the yellow block, there's an additional problem: you're starting from a pi-heptomino that's so far past that yellow block that there probably aren't any known conduits that could place that pi in that location. In explorations like this it's often a really good idea to start from a known conduit that outputs whatever signal object you're starting from. Then if you manage to complete something, you won't be tripped up by the whole mechanism still being unusable after all.

(Moved.)

Code: Select all

x = 37, y = 25, rule = B3/S23

the call of the p33 edge blinker factory has still not been answered... please im getting desperate you can even just use glider guns

Yes, it is known and can be found in some dependent glider loops.

Could someone figure out how to remove the pesky glider, perhaps by find something that generates an object to block the gliders path?

Code: Select all

The top block deletes a B plus junk - if the junk can be removed we would have a new conduit. (Bx59H doesn't quite work.)

This isn't really the kind of solution that's wanted, but as an upper bound, it's easy to restore the block with a couple of gliders, and you only have to care about the order they come in and the P2 phase for the first one:

Code: Select all

x = 170, y = 167, rule = LifeHistory
A$.2A$2A73$73.2C$73.2C19$77.2A$77.2A2$59.2A$60.A18.2A$60.A.A16.A.A$61.
2A18.A$81.2A4$86.A$85.A.A$58.2A26.A$59.A$59.A.A$60.2A2$81.2A$81.2A4$60.
C$60.C.C$60.3C$62.C3$77.2A$77.2A39$167.2A$167.A.A$167.A!
Unfortunately I think the phase is wrong for connecting either of the two northern glider outputs to the first glider input using just Snarks -- too bad if so, because they're both the right color. I didn't actually add Snarks to prove that the phase is wrong, and I'm a bit out of practice remembering what other compact reflectors could be used instead.

It's quite a nice LWSS output, so it's worth looking for a good solution for recreating the block. The LWSS lane is clear so this could be used as a merge circuit -- and so far the circuitry is Spartan.

Yes indeed!

It would still be nice to come up with a catalyst that can restore the block directly. That seems a bit unlikely but not absolutely impossible.

I wonder if it might be about the same level of awkwardness to simply rebuild the block directly? Synchronizing two colliding gliders would be painful, but maybe there's some advantage to not having any gliders crossing the LWSS's output path:

Code: Select all

x = 31, y = 64, rule = LifeHistory
4.A$5.A$3.3A4$21.A$19.3A$18.A$16.B.2A$14.6B$14.6B$12.9B$11.5B2D3B$9.7B

A.A$4.2A18.A$24.2A4$29.A$28.A.A$.2A26.A$2.A$2.A.A$3.2A2$24.2A$24.2A4$
3.C$3.C.C$3.3C$5.C3$20.2A$20.2A!
I think in the absence of a magical catalyst, a good bet might be to grab the NW output glider with a syringe or speed tunnel or some such, and send something like a Herschel, B, R, etc. back to collide with the blinker directly and convert it into a block that way. Not saying that any such collision exists, but it's highly plausible and would be easy to look for.

Alternatively, maybe shoot down the blinker with a glider instead of suppressing it with that eater. That would leave the north side clear for rebuilding the block with any old X-to-block converter.

I get really annoyed by that chucklebait variant.
Me too! It offers zero advantages for most standard chucklebait catlyst usages. How did it even arise?

Also reduction to the snark distance as a result.
