New infinitely extensible spaceships. The first one is very unusual and carries a wave; the second one is more classical and can be displaced respecting the zebra stripe stabilisation:

New reply for a really unique discovery so it does not get lost in the previous post:
A natural (545,2)c/1110 growing puffer in the same rule family in which the front end moves orthogonally and the rear grows (9,2)-knightwise:

The rulespace B3-cy/S23-cy - B3-cy4ce6c7c8/S23-y4ce5e6ik7e has a lot of curious patterns based on the R.

An 11-cell pattern that becomes a broken-lines emulator (where a line of beehives is created in a way which repeats exponentially across space and time). You will need Golly for this:

Code: Select all

x = 7, y = 3, rule = B3/S2-n3-c4ci
3ob3o$obobobo$4bo!
EDIT: Strange quadratic growth, where the breeder moves at a speed of 115c/596 producing rakes in front of it:

Code: Select all

x = 7, y = 4, rule = B3/S2-n3-c4ci
3ob3o$obobobo$obobobo$b2ob2o!
Currently writing a utility in Lua that may be helpful for faster manual pattern manipulation.

Why this looks like LtL?(5S-record 116c/1360)

Long post for two different things: (1) some interesting puffers and rakes, and (2) an EXTREMELY interesting and varied rulespace represented in several examples. For the latter, it may be worth posting in a different thread; if you find it worthwhile, let me know (or post it yourself, anything is fine).

Perhaps there is a way to classify linearly growing patterns better, maybe there is some appeal to preparing some framework to categorise them (including but not limited to symmetry, providing a robust way to define what distinguishes "reaction-based" vs "spaceship-based" [a kind of intuitive, but perhaps flawed idea?], etc)
I don't think many examples of this behaviour are known: this dirty rake periodically creates a puffer that it then destroys after many generations:

Code: Select all

x = 25, y = 25, rule = B2e3-a4c6a/S012-n3cknqr4q
3b3o$3bobo2b3o$3bobo2bobo$3bobo2bobo$3b3o$12bo$b2o$b2o5bobo$8bob3o$8b
5o3$7bo3$7bob2o$7b2ob2o$5b6o$4bo10bo3bo$5b2o$17bo3bob2o$17bo6bo$15bobo
3bob2o$o$19bo!
This puffer works by firing a glider that burns through debris that it then reconstructs with a displacement:

Code: Select all

x = 36, y = 28, rule = B3-cq/S23-c
25bo$25bo$25bo2$18b2o$18b2o11b3o$31bobo$12b3o16bobo$24bo10bo$22b4o7b3o
$21b4obob2o2bo2bo$20b2o3bo5bo$21bo10b2o$22bo3b2obo3$7bo$7bo$7bo2$14b2o
6b2o$14b2o6b2o5$2o$2o!
Reaction-led puffer:

Code: Select all

x = 14, y = 16, rule = B3-q4n/S23-k

Nice, but I'm looking for a LowLife alternative where the spaceships are more common. Also, that's so many isotropic transitions that it might as well not be related to LowLife. Having just a handful of those makes apgsearching much faster too.

Sorry if I sound demanding, but I want a "HighLowLife" to just be more interesting and easy to work with then the plain LowLife.
I could've chose a better username, but oh well.

Still learning the ropes of cellular automata.
