Reactions that require 2 or more synchronized gliders require a lot more work to set up than ones requiring only one. If this cannot always be done, it is usually a good idea if the reaction has benign effects, should any of the gliders be missing. In this case, either one of the incoming gliders alone destroys the block (one cleanly, one not).
The Boat Bit reaction is ideal - it takes one glider on one lane to set, and another glider on the same lane to reset, and has negligible cool down time. A synchronized glider on an adjacent lane can read if the bit reset at that very moment, and passes by harmlessly if it is being set, or not currently affected at all.
