Today's winners (candidates for permanent bans and removals, notice the distance between the IDs):

Platitudes and one-way communicating cliches are common traps for bots. (This is a platitude, too :) )

So, please remove the above wannabe-bots if they are deserved their fate!

Please add me (username Andrew) to the trusted list. I want to fix a few minor things in the Larger_than_Life page. In particular, I'm going to remove all links and references to Golly 3.0b1. Beta versions of Golly should never really be mentioned in the wiki pages. They are only available for temporary download from my website so people can test things out. The versions available from sourceforge are the "true" public releases.

Another spam user (Shipet256, 1 post):
memberlist.php?mode=viewprofile&u=1940
viewtopic.php?f=7&t=3400 (some trash about a sports betting site)
(spam post deleted by dvgrn, spammer banned by name and IP as usual)

The same spammer in another cloak: Setfree244

3 posts: http://conwaylife.com/forums/search.php ... 4&sr=posts {EDIT:: Deleted posts, updated banlist as usual -- dvgrn}

I wonder if someone could be promoted in order to chat f2f with newcomers before they are allowed to post. Cannot recall if it is a part of the registration process.

I think forcing users to "chat f2f" with admins would be excessive, and would just put off prospective real new users more than anything. This particular spammer always uses the same text in their posts - so a filter that blocks messages if they contain (part of) that text ought to do the trick (I've seen that used successfully to stop spam attacks on other phpBB forums).
