Rules in which B-Heptominoes are puffers/spaceships
This is the thread for rules like B3/S023, even though it isn't a full puffer (because it eventually gets swallowed by its debris). More coming soon!

Bumping since I've found a particularly amusing case.
I'm exploring non-totalistic 2-state rules in the vicinity of Life. Take B34/S23, where B4 is limited to the following environments:
In this rule, a B-heptomino will automagically turn into a 2c/40 diagonal glider!
Relatedly: allow only the 1st environment, and the "Herschel core", ie. this pattern
…will turn out a breeder.

Two B-Heptominoes become a puffer in this rule.
Code: Select all
x = 329, y = 480, rule = B37/S237

Re: Rules in which B-Heptominoes are puffers/spaceships
With B...7/S...8, highest theoretically reachable state is about 15 (cell state can continue to grow as long as neighbors are held at favorable sum, but as soon as its state exceeds maximum S value they start dying out; they can still support the cell's growth until they fall below lowest B rule).

I think that technically is not a puffer because the "puff" explodes.

I agree. To be a puffer, an object's periodic puff has to grow linearly. (Some definitions include quadratically growing objects that grow predictably, such as some line puffers and the switch engine puffer.)Kiran wrote:I think that technically is not a puffer because the "puff" explodes.
