Lifeline/Errata

This page is intended to catalogue any errors found in Lifeline. These errors are present in the original copies of Lifeline and are intentionally preserved on the Lifeline wiki pages.

Pattern Errors

2	2.5	One of the listed undecominoes is not a pure glider generator (it evolves into century instead). This undecomino is a result of colliding two LWSSs as shown in volume 1 page 4, but another generation of birth suppression at the right edge is required for the undecomino to become a glider.
3	3.14	The "race against time" does not work as shown. The topmost gliders should each be flipped across a diagonal axis. This was corrected in volume 10 page 5.
4	4.5	The phantom (gray) thunderbird is 8 cells below where the original thunderbird was placed to form generation 155 (black). This isn't necessarily a mistake, but it is misleading because the phantom pi and switch engine from earlier in the volume are in the correct location.
	4.6	The 21-cell pattern is not a gun predecessor as claimed. The leftmost 10 bits should be moved up 1 cell. This was corrected in volume 7 page 8
7	7.8	Three on cells are missing from substructure I of generation 96 of the titanic toroidal traveler.
8	8.1	Pattern (g) is not an oscillator as claimed (it falls apart). This was corrected in volume 9 page 3.
9	9.5	The spacing between the output killer toads in the second puffer ("Arrangement II") is too large. The rightmost killer toads should be one cell to the left.
	9.7	The given octomino does not evolve into "double small T in 13" in 3-4 Life as indicated. 10	10.2	The LWSS collision supposedly making bookend bridge bookend does not work as shown. The spaceships must have a spacing equivalent to 2 mod 4, rather than any even spacing as stated.
	10.5	The puffer synthesis (at bottom of page) labeled "gen. 0" is incorrect. The switch engine synthesis and block synthesis should be one cell farther apart. The pattern labeled "gen. 6" is correct.
	10.6	The pentadecathlon synthesis does not work as shown; the bottom two gliders should be moved one cell northeast. This appears to be indicated in the original scanned copy by two marked cells which are represented in grey in the viewer on the wiki page.
11	11.15	The wick shown, comprised of sombreros hassling half-scrubbers, doesn't work. The sombreros should be one generation ahead (as shown in the period-6 wick in the half-scrubbers link, which also has fenceposts).
	11.16	The pattern labeled "Dave Buckingham's Period 30 Pseudo-Shuttle" doesn't work. The top and bottom queen bees and blocks should be moved one cell down and up respectively.

4	4.10	In row 5.k.0 of the table, the entries in columns c and g should be switched. The table claims that 3 asymmetric pentaplets evolve into two blocks and none evolve into ponds.
