What are known rules with a large number of different slopes of non-adjustable spaceships?

I posted about this rule in this thread once in 2018, but as a refresher here's a collection of other bugs in this rule:

Why do so many patterns in LtL moore look like doughnuts, regardless of range (of at least 2)? Spaceships, oscillators and still lifes tend to look like doughnuts in Bosco's rule and many other LtL.

My best guess is that it's because the center of the circle almost always ends up overpopulated, but the edges don't - and the rounded outer layer comes from those cells only seeing a subset of the circle.

Actually not - the dot in these patterns below survives, at least for a while, proving that the hole isn't due to overpopulation, while removing the dot won't affect the pattern's evolution:

That's exactly what happens. For example, in a random soup the center dies of overpopulation, and the corners die of underpopulation, leaving a semi-stable ring after one or two generations.

x = 15, y = 15, rule = R5,C0,M1,S34..58,B34..45,NM

Can there be a "flying fortress" spaceship in a two-state isotropic rule?
By a "flying fortress" I mean either of the following:
(a) A spaceship with "chaos inside": a high-period non-engineered "unintelligible" reaction, either surrounded by low-period parts ("moving billiard") or free-standing (similarly to high-period oscillators). There should be some natural explanation why the chaos cannot escape, other than "it just happens to work".
(b) A spaceship able to withstand many different side impacts, with some natural explanation of this ability.

It's trailing edge consist of block, blinker and gliders made by the engines at front. The block and blinker is then destroyed by gliders.
If the block and/or blinker is destroyed, the gliders will simply pass through. On the other hand, the block and/or blinker will survive if the gliders is destroyed, not affecting the ship, So as long as the leading edge works, the trailing edge will be immune from any impact.

I think it is a non-breeder. It is a puffer that produces patterns which grow in bounding box, but not in population. The total population grows linearly.

Is there a pair of rules which are like maze with mice and mazectric with mice but with extra "cats" that can eat mice?

The question you're asking doesn't make any sense to me, but in my half-asleep post exam fugue state I've lazily meshed together the corpses of Mazelectric and Bliptile to bring you this cursed multi-color abomination that maybe kinda sorta fits your description, if you fudge it a little. Maybe. I'm not even sure what's going on here and I think I'm going to pass out soon, I feel like this was given to me by Apollo in much the same way he would give prophecy to the oracle at delphi (magic smoke that makes you really high and see strange things..... like that one time I got really obsessed with google snake and started seeing checkerboards in blank spaces, I think that's called the tertis effect google it. How should this elementary puffer (dirty rep) classified, and what's it's behavior belong?

Two questions:

- When will OCADOTY 2023 nominations start?

- Is there a rule with p1, p2, ... pn 4-cell objects? If so, what is the maximum n such that this rule is non-explosive? (Assume the INT rulespace is used.)

Well, we can prove that n ≥ 4:

Code: Select all

x = 22, y = 3, rule = B2ei3a4e5k/S12c3aj
2o4bo6bo5bobo$2o4b2o4bobo5bo$7bo5bo7bo!

Code: Select all

x = 0, y = 0, rule = B2ei3a4e5k/S12c3aj
!
[[ RANDWIDTH 128 RANDHEIGHT 128 RANDOMIZE ]]
Edit: 5 if you count spaceships:

Code: Select all

x = 31, y = 9, rule = B2cei3a4et/S12c3aj4i

Code: Select all

!

What is the difference between N@, NW, NE, N2 and N3 weighted rules?

Help/Algorithms/Larger than Life
NW (weighted) allows to specify a weight for each cell in the neighborhood.
N@ (custom) allows to specify just a set of cells that belong to the neighbourhood.

Since NB and ND are both checkerboard rules, what are the differences in dynamics between NB and ND?

Also, how do I create Weighted Hex rules without ridiculous ruletables?

Neither "NE" nor "ND" seems to be listed in Golly help and/or supported as a neighbourhood type.

ND is supported - try it out. After this, can you tell me the differences in dynamics between NB and ND?

I did try it out. Neither "NE" nor "ND" is listed in Golly 4.2 help system, and neither is supported as a neighbourhood type.

I meant in Lifeviewer.

In that case, see search.php?keywords=aligned+checkerboard

Code: Select all
