This has to be known (because of the octohash database), but I found a transparent beehive reaction while playing around in Golly:

Code: Select all

x = 11, y = 9, rule = B3/S23
$8b2o$2bo4bo2bo$obo4bo2bo$b2o5b2o2$3b2o$2bo2bo$3b2o!
Then I got insanely lucky and found a DOUBLE transparent beehive reaction:

Code: Select all

x = 14, y = 9, rule = B3/S23
$8b2o$2bo4bo2bob2o$obo4bo2bob2o$b2o5b2o2$3b2o$2bo2bo$3b2o!
The beehive is regenerated even if the other still life isn't technically a pond, it also works with a bipond. This might be used to create a reflector or a G-to-X.

Code: Select all

x = 32, y = 32, rule = B3aijkr5j/S2aek3-acy4iz6c
8b3o$7bo2bo$7bo2bo$7b3o4$28b3o$28bo2bo$28bo2bo$29b3o11$3o$o2bo$o2bo$b

No, there *is* a fuse that forms later, I think the speed is 3c/25 and the period is 2000. It looks like this at generation 2454:

this is definitely known, but wing catalysis

Code: Select all

x = 7, y = 4, rule = B3/S23

I found in my searches a useless P-to-Boat then I resend a Pi and get this reaction.

There are way too many collisions between a glider and a small p2/p1 constellation that evolve to a single glider, of the same size or smaller, with the same number of objects or fewer, to post them one at a time. A lot of them can be found by searching in the octohash/octo3obj databases for a single glider.

I mean that "glider + stationary constellation -> glider" reactions don't really deserve to be posted one at a time.

Overunity reactions (e.g. N gliders colliding to create M gliders and nothing else, with M > N) are different. New reasonably small non-engineered examples of those can be expected to be more 'interesting', compared to one-time glider turners.

I understand that too many posts can overload the forum uselessly.
I also understand that there's too many "glider+constellation=glider" to be posted one at a time, perhaps a collection will be more usefull.

Using "over unities" terminology, I was thought about OTT which gave 2 or more signals.
For me "signals" mean Glider, xWSS, B, C D, E, H, I, P, Q, R as I don't really study the wicks.

One-time glider splitters aren't overunity reactions, because they need an initial stationary constellation and that constellation is not restored after the reaction.

An overunity reaction starts with several gliders colliding in empty space, and ends with more gliders escaping away, without any leftover junk.

Signals are irrelevant here. For example two "parallel" gliders moving in the same direction can be used to carry one signal, or the same pair of gliders can be used to carry two separate signals (with possibility that one or both gliders can be absent, delayed, or advanced), or no signals at all (when using that glider pair in a complicated spaceship synthesis, within one of colliding glider salvos). That doesn't in any way change the situation with whether or not a reaction that created those two gliders is an overunity reaction.

No, that still life is not really used as a catalyst in the reaction you posted.

A catalyst is a still life that participates in a reaction but emerges from it unharmed.
In your reaction, the 17-bit still life doesn't emerge from the reaction unharmed; the still life disappears. It's not a catalyst here.

Regarding the use as an one-time turner, I suspect there is another still life or stable constellation, which also can act as an one-time turner in the exact same way (so that one can be substituted for another without changing the position or timing of the glider in any way), but is significantly cheaper to construct (either by colliding gliders from multiple directions, or by a slow salvo).

I would be surprised if that particular 17-bitter is the cheapest way to perform that particular one-time glider turning.

No, that still life is not really used as a catalyst in the reaction you posted.
I meant "can be" used as a catalyst and this reaction can facilitate a destruction of conduit.
For example, here's a 2H to G using xs17_o8bdzx315a4 as a catalyst for the conduit and as OTT for the One Glider Destruction :

Code: Select all

x = 54, y = 58, rule = LifeHistory

Edit:
Now, destroy the FNG Eater 1 if it is there :

iNoMed found this ridiculously cursed caterer catalysis:

Code: Select all

x = 17, y = 13, rule = B3/S23
9bo2bo$5b2o2bo2bo$5b2ob2o2b2obo$14bobo$15bo$2o5b3o$b2o8bo$o5bo4bo$10bo
$7b2o$7bo$7bo$7bo!

I reduced the interaction to this, where it's clear that the front (the "L") of the caterer is destroyed and then reformed.

Code: Select all

x = 10, y = 12, rule = B3/S23

It's accidental but I think it's also useless.
xs22_wca23z8kicwoozcc hit by a Glider gives another Glider + a 2 Still Life OTT :

Code: Select all

x = 29, y = 36, rule = LifeHistory
