Tangential questions like this would go better in the Basic questions thread, instead of flooding other topics.

A rake that periodically produces a c/2 collision based sqrt-diameter growth thingy:

Another knightship collision based replicator that create a c/2 collision arrangement each replication, though in this rule the arrangement is an osc:

I think one can compare this thread with a much earlier thread focusing on "interesting dynamics" in general:

Neither "interesting dynamics" nor "unusual spaceship" is a term, obviously, there is no precise definition, yet both threads are here.
The suggestion to describe the dynamic in detail is also applicable to this thread. Often it is possible to find many variations with similar dynamics and shared objects, and one longer post describing the space is better than multiple shorter posts for variations (also, the more interesting details are mentioned in the post, the better; for example mentioning the period/speed of objects in the post would help, especially for high-period objects, because that means the readers will not have to re-identify the object again to obtain the same information that was already known to the author of the post).

Unlike the previously posted (4,3)c/11 oblique spaceship, this (12,6)c/56 spaceship is indeed a knightship (it has slope 2).

Both the copperhead and the fireship from Conway's Life are supported:

#C [[ THEME MCell GRID ZOOM 8 TRACKLOOP 10 0/10 -1/10 ]]
In addition, the R-pentomino is a phase of a p122 oblique (9,8)c/122 spaceship:

Code: Select all

The oblique spaceship is endemic to this CA within the space of all two-state isotropic CA with range-1 Moore neighbourhood.

The four standard spaceships from Conway's Life are supported as well. What was a honeyfarm predecessor, instead evolves into a 46-bit strict still life with bounding box 13-by-9, making that still life unusually common:

Rakes and puffers can be made from interacting instances of the oblique spaceship:

Two slow spaceships:
  • the R-pentomino is a p85 orthogonal 2c/85 rake shooting gliders, and two mirrored copies of the rake can form a spaceship
  • the ear is a (2,1)c/307 p307 knightship, endemic to this CA (within the space of all 2-state isotropic CA with range-1 Moore neighbourhood)
In some phases, the p307 knightship consists of two still lives (a block and a boat) and the p85 rake. Moreover the rake completes a full cycle without interacting with the still lives.

Looks like b3-ky4ce6ei7c8s23-y5e6ein7e8/C1 can be apgsearched, although very slowly (a 10000-soup haul took several hours). Here is a statorless p4 oscillator:

is also a failed p(18160+33938n) flipper:

Is there any way to perturb/hassle (not sure if I am using the right words here) this ship to make a (possibly adjustable) flipper of any period of the form p(18160+33938n)?

In this CA, "boxes" with bits added at one edge and removed from the opposite edge can become p1 orthogonal c/1 spaceships.

Here are several unusual period-1 spaceships. In every case, the CA is two-state, with isotropic rules, and defined using a weighted neighbourhood with weights assigned in a fully symmetric way.

Discovering a higher-period chucklebait spaceship in some isotropic cellular automaton with (range-1) Moore neighbourhood is left as an exercise for the student.

A weird double pre-traffic light ship in a strange rule:

Here are
  • an extensible snek,
  • period-256 snek loop, with stable snek reflectors,
  • a (capped) replicator-based period-64 gun, shooting a certain three-bit p1 orthogonal c/1 spaceship (which isn't a snek),
  • all in one two-state isotropic cellular automaton defined using a weighted neighbourhood (subset of range-3 Moore neighbourhood, with weights assigned in a fully-symmetric way).
Finding a snek duplicator is left as an exercise.

Re: Unusual spaceships

There is a p31 oblique (3,2)c/31 spaceship in the lower-right corner of the following object collection, which I think counts as an unusual spaceship:

Code: Select all

#C [[ GRID THEME MCell ]]
x = 122, y = 60, rule = R3,C0,S5-7,17,25-27,35-40,55-57,62,80,128-157,160,165-187,191-250,255,270,307,311,326,383-385,401,403-416,419-425,435,501-512,516-527,530,550,576,638,640,662,671,690,693,701,707,712-713,730,740,763,783,811,826,837,877,879,889-890,893,916-917,931,937,953,957,981,1003,1018,1026-1027,1052-1055,1080,1125,1133,1152-1155,1162,1176,1187,1201,1208,1217,1282,1292,1308,1383,1392,1401,1406,1410,1417,1437,1456-1457,1537,1657,1711,B10-12,30-32,50-52,58-61,128,131,155,160,166,170,262,266,295,315-317,327-330,332,390-391,393,427-428,438,450,456,466,515,534,553,560,567,578,628,663,667,670,683,687,693,696-697,707,711,713,716,755,759,768-771,778-779,784,788-789,827,840,850,860,878,883,892,912,926,928-929,936,950,956,961,986,1010,1013,1018,1020,1027,1030,1034,1037,1047,1067,1076-1077,1081,1086,1091-1092,1107,1131,1133,1137-1138,1140-1141,1146,1152-1157,1168-1170,1206,1232,1252,1256,1263,1273-1275,1290-1291,1301,1306,1312,1318,1336,1356,1381,1394,1437,1451,1506,1511,1535,1537,1541,1581-1582,1831,NW00007D017D0000007D7D197D7D007D7D0005007D7D011905000519017D7D0005007D7D007D7D197D7D0000007D017D0000

In addition to that oblique zebrawise spaceship, there are
  • orthogonal spaceships (p1 c/1, p2 c/2, p8 c/8, p9 c/9),
  • diagonal spaceships (the p4 c/4d glider from CGoL and an alien p14 c/7d spaceship),
  • several objects from CGOL (in addition to the glider, there are tub, pond, ship),
  • a statorless rotating p52 oscillator,
  • several other oscillators (p11, p16, p17, p22, p76, p88),
  • some alien still-lives and probably some other stuff to be discovered (I didn't find any gun so far),
... in a (nontotalistic) two-state isotropic cellular automaton, which is defined using the following fully-symmetric weighted neighbourhood (weights are given in hexadecimal; '19' means 25; '7D' means 125):

Code: Select all

-- -- 7D 01 7D -- --
-- 7D 7D 19 7D 7D --
7D 7D -- 05 -- 7D 7D
01 19 05 -- 05 19 01
7D 7D -- 05 -- 7D 7D
-- 7D 7D 19 7D 7D --
-- -- 7D 01 7D -- --
Note in particular that here the four cells (±1;±1) aren't neighbours of the cell (0;0),
even though several objects from CGoL can be found in this cellular automaton (glider, pond, tub, ship) and CGoL is defined using the Moore neighbourhood where the four cells (±1;±1) are neighbours of the cell (0;0).

In case you only need the oblique spaceship (and don't care about the rest of objects), it can be found in a cellular automaton with a simpler definition (the weighted neighbourhood is the same):

Code: Select all

interesting (22,1)c/74 which in some phase just a B and block:

Code: Select all

x = 1, y = 1, rule = B3-c7e/S2-n34i

Do anyone have a P38 edge block factory?
Currently hand-searching spaceships.
