Honeyfarm sequence hitting a loaf in a certain way produces a LWSS, and can be made to produce a MWSS and a glider, with some added junk and at the expense of an eater 1:

Both are known. The first one is NW31T120. The second one adds two more glider outputs, SW-2T21 (the first natural glider of the input Hershel) and SE-2T80.

p30 pre-pulsar hassler partial

Okay, so this ate the blocks and still made a pulsar in a different place. Progress I guess.

Code: Select all

x = 9, y = 8, rule = B3/S23

Should we make a different thread for this?
by putting another set of two blocks somewhere near the top, we can make it so it goes back to the same place. therefore, if the blocks didnt get eaten, it would make a p30 pre-pulsar hassler.

Code: Select all

x = 9, y = 16, rule = B3/S23

Currently working to improve Life's guns and work on updating SKOPs and Isotropic rules most similar to B3/S23 to Life standards. Will get software to begin searches eventually.

It looks like the eventually-forming p1509120 puffer adds 676496 alive cells to the total population every cycle (i.e. every 1509120 ticks). The ash contains pulsars at least, and I didn't double-check whether the period is exactly 1509120 or a multiple.

I'm not sure if you can make a new spaceship from this 28c/83 crawler:

Code: Select all

I think I discovered the period-145 glider gun by simply taking away some structures from the period-435 gun.
AFAICS there seems to be no period-145 gun anywhere on the internet yet.
I'm a bit baffled that no one seems to have thought of this before, tbh...

Hello! I was messing around with life and found an interesting spaceship that I was wondering if it had a name or has been found before (it likely has).

RLE Code

Code: Select all

x = 0, y = 0, rule = B3/S23

I couldn’t get an image or gif of the ship to be here without seemingly uploading them to an external site first.

Code: Select all

x = 16, y = 18, rule = B3/S23

There are several known ways to construct a p145 gun in CGoL. Your example uses a p5-assisted Herschel track, and Herschel tracks were the most practical method for adjustable guns until the discovery of the syringe; hooking up a syringe to a H-2G and some reflectors (or another syringe) is currently the best known method by bounding box for adjustable-period gun construction. Here is the current smallest p145 gun, from the Catagolue page:

Code: Select all

#C [[ GRID MAXGRIDSIZE 14 THEME Catagolue ]]
#CSYNTH gun_145 costs 4278 cells.
#C period 145 fullperiod 145 bbox 69 by 62
#CLL state-numbering golly

Thanks for the infos, guys. Didn't know that "Catalogue" page yet. Always just used the wiki here on conwaylife.com as reference. (But also a Google search for "period 145 glider gun" didn't really turn up anything useful.)

What's supposed to be the difference between those two? They seem to be identical... :?

In this case, currently, both pages show the same glider gun.

In general, the "guntrue_NNNN" pages on Catagolue always show true period glider guns. (A true period gun is one where the period of the gun mechanism is equal to the period of the resulting output glider stream.)

On the other hand, the "gun_NNNN" pages on Catagolue can show pseudo period glider guns instead, if there is a smaller known pseudo period gun. (A pseudo period gun is one where the period of the gun mechanism is a multiple of the period of the resulting output glider stream.)

Check for example gun_120 vs. guntrue_120 (currently they are different), or gun_17 (which currently shows a pseudo period gun) vs. guntrue_17 (which doesn't currently show any gun, because no true period 17 gun is currently known).

Thanks for the explanations!
But one more question: What's the format the Catalogue uses for the patterns and how do I convert it to RLE?

It's apgcode, but if you go to the object page for the apgcode, it will give you the RLE. Example: xs4_33 or xp2_7
