Actually, the above is incorrect. As long as alive cells can die, there is no claimed contradiction at the end; "one bit per tick" population growth can grow in two opposite directions at once.

Correction, it isn't semi-natural, because it didn't appear in the final pattern from any soup (whether symmetric or not).

"Semi-natural" would mean that the object in question appeared in some of the "official censuses" on Catagolue, which this one didn't AFAIK.
"Natural" would mean that the object in question appeared in the C1 census specifically.

That's actually a period-4 object, a p4 c/4d wickstretcher that stretches two boats. Looks like the Catagolue identifier (yl1_1_1_90240ee96c4ba43f3a1dea919744b9dd) begins with "yl1" due to apgsearch only looking at the population sequence.

Here it is evolved and truncated so that it begins with initial population of 43 alive cells, and grows at 1 bit per tick from that. Can anyone reduce the initial population?

This rule is slightly different. ColorfulGalaxy did not search on Catagolue. Instead, he did a manual soup search by himself. He found a "p8" puffer, but failed to find a suitable "p2" oscillator to smooth the graph.
While he was looking for spaceships, he found another "p6" puffer by trying to put two spaceships together. Luckily, he did not need more oscillators this time.

My goal was to create a rule similar to some other rules in the past with a copious amount of still-life-based oscillators and small rotors. I think I kinda succeeded, but it also produced natural OPG growth. The mechanism in this soup first appears at around T=132, though it takes 65 more generations for residual activity to die and officially initiate OPG.
