I got this life like rule: B2n3-q4qz/S23-ekq4z7e.

But Phoenix doesn't work, I need a Phoenix variant of this, and I want to know that the needed, optional, and forbidden conditions about Phoenix as an "iterating quine"(oscillator) with period 2. B/S012345678 make a Phoenix quine(still-life).
This is LittleLWSS.

Code: Select all

Sounds like some sort of confusion.

(1) What you mean by "iterating quine" or "Phoenix quine"?

(2) B/S012345678 doesn't have any oscillators; every pattern is a still-life.

(3) A phoenix is a pattern such that every alive cell dies in the next generation, but the pattern as a whole never dies out completely.

(4) B2n3-q4qz/S23-ekq4z7e fails to be a Life-like cellular automaton, see the definition: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Life-like ... _automaton (It must be a two-state outer-totalistic CA with range-1 Moore neighbourhood to count)

Iterating quine means oscillator, quine means still-life. I'm also an enthusiast of programming, and I saw someone calls an iterating quine(a program that output another program's source code and looping until output the original source code) oscillator.

If you mean phoenix 1, then it's as follows I think:

Code: Select all

#C 2^91 = 2475880078570760549798248448 two-state isotropic cellular automata with Moore neighbourhood:
#C required birth conditions: B3nqr

x = 8, y = 8, rule = B2n34qz/S23-ekq4z7e

The reason why this oscillator doesn't exist in B2n3-q4qz/S23-ekq4z7e is because the cell condition B3q is a required birth condition for the oscillator, but it isn't a birth condition in B2n3-q4qz/S23-ekq4z7e.

Request to tame this rule. Somehow, I haven't yet found a 128*128 soup exhibiting infinite growth, but when I run the following pattern in golly at 10^3 speed, it simply won't stabilise.

Code: Select all

x = 512, y = 1, rule = B2-a3ceij4knqtwz5jknq6ei78/S2-a3ceij4cnqwz
512o!
Can anybody tame it to make it still highly chaotic and nearly explosive?

B2-a3ceij4knqtwz5jknq6ei78/S2-a3ceij4cnqwz
Beginning with these two spaceships (p2 orthogonal c/2 and p8 orthogonal c/2):

Code: Select all

#C 2^36 = 68719476736 two-state isotropic cellular automata with Moore neighbourhood:
#C required birth conditions: B2ceikn3ceij4n5q6i7ce8
#C required survival conditions: S2ceikn3cij4w
#C optional birth conditions: B3ky4kqrtwyz5acjkny6aek
#C optional survival conditions: S3eknqy4ceknqtz5cejn6an
#C forbidden birth conditions: B01ce2a3anqr4aceij5eir6cn
#C forbidden survival conditions: S01ce2a3ar4aijry5aikqry6ceik7ce8
x = 25, y = 8, rule = B2-a3ceij4knqtwz5jknq6ei78/S2-a3ceij4cnqwz
22bo3$20bobobo$2bo18bobo$3o19bo$ob2o$3o!
here are some possibilities:
  • Add the survival condition S4e:

    Code: Select all

    x = 512, y = 1, rule = B2-a3ceij4knqtwz5jknq6ei78/S2-a3ceij4cenqwz
    512o!

  • Remove the survival condition S4c:

    Code: Select all

    x = 512, y = 1, rule = B2-a3ceij4knqtwz5jknq6ei78/S2-a3ceij4nqwz
    512o!

  • Remove the birth condition B6e:

    Code: Select all

    x = 512, y = 1, rule = B2-a3ceij4knqtwz5jknq6i78/S2-a3ceij4cnqwz
    512o!

  • Remove the birth condition B4w:

    Code: Select all

    x = 512, y = 1, rule = B2-a3ceij4knqtz5jknq6ei78/S2-a3ceij4cnqwz
    512o!

  • Add the birth condition B5y:

    Code: Select all

    x = 512, y = 1, rule = B2-a3ceij4knqtwz5jknqy6ei78/S2-a3ceij4cnqwz
    512o!

I think all of these are "one tweak away" from the ruleset you provided, where "one tweak" means one replaced indivisible isotropic rule. For example,
  • adding the birth condition B5y amounts to replacing the "nonbirth" rule A5y by the birth rule B5y,
  • removing the survival condition S4c amounts to replacing the survival rule S4c by the death rule D4c,
and so on.

Make this rule more active while keeping this spaceship:

Code: Select all

x = 10, y = 5, rule = B012/S5
$6bo$2bobobo$4bo$3bobo!
It can be explosive, but it must still clearly divide into day and night areas.

EDIT: Just make it contain more interesting objects. And it must be still range-1 Life-like B0 rule.

With all of those restrictions, it is possible that you already found the most 'interesting' choice in the space. It might be a matter of searching more to find more 'interesting' objects/reactions in the same CA.

One could drop all of the restrictions "range-1", "Life-like", "B0". Instead of a CA with strobing background emulated by alternating two different rulesets, one could put "the same" spaceship in a two-state isotropic CA with quiescent state-0 background, like this:

Code: Select all

x = 115, y = 46, rule = R3,C0,S1-5,7-24,27-49,51-59,62-64,66-81,83-85,87-109,111-131,133-205,207-276,278-285,288-311,313-331,333-425,427-431,433-435,438-530,532-560,562-585,587-679,681-1962,1964-2086,2090-2172,2174-2313,2315-2317,2319-2338,2340-2417,2419-2437,2440-2442,2445-2462,2465-2546,2549-2567,2570-2587,2590-2624,B35-36,55-56,76-77,160-161,180-181,185-186,206,285,306,310,451,535-537,661,1944,2038,2063,2093,2187-2188,2192,2198,2292,2312,2337-2338,2347,2418,2492,2514,2538,2542,2559,2563-2564,2574,2598-2599,2618,2624,NW007D7D007D7D007D7D0001007D7D7D00051905007D000119001901007D00051905007D7D7D0001007D7D007D7D007D7D00

Make this rule more active while keeping the knightship and its rotational symmetry:

Code: Select all

x = 4, y = 5, rule = MAPERYRFh5oHmgW6BboaIBogBZoFmhogGiAaIBogIAAgAAWaBZoaIBogGiAaICAAIAA6IDogIAAgACAAIAAAAAAAA

(Note: The rule is rotate4 symmetry. It's B3/S3 plus B2a/S2a in 4 directions.)

Edit 1: Fix rule description.

EDIT 2.75: this modification may be interesting (p34 oscillator, p16 oscillator, the knightship). See below for more details on how one could tweak the rules of this cellular automaton further.
The optional birth conditions for all of the shown objects are: {20, 60}, {26, 62, 74, 78}, {53, 71, 77, 79}, {80}.
And the optional survival conditions are: {26, 62, 74, 78}, {50, 70}, {80}.
To preserve the rotate4 symmetry, either include all conditions in a set, or exclude all conditions in a set.

EDIT 1: here are optional birth/survival conditions (given as sets; to preserve rotate4 symmetry, for every line either include all listed conditions or exclude all listed conditions):

Tame this rule but keep LWSS and add MWSS and HWSS into it.

Also, if you want, add Zeta(Z-pentomino) into it, to generate alien things.

I was half-tamed it. The rule is given by tommyaweosme: B3/S234e5i

After my half-tame: B3-q4z/S2-n3-q4ez5i
This is LittleLWSS.

Code: Select all

Code: Select all

The request misses an answer to the question:

Why wouldn't CGoL (B3/S23) count? (Or why B3/S234z wouldn't count, if you want to have the Z-pentomino as a still-life.) In both cases, the LWSS is kept, the MWSS and the HWSS are added, and both B3/S23 and B3/S234z look "tame enough" as far as could be expected from a two-state isotropic cellular automaton with Moore neighbourhood.

It sounds as if you wanted to preserve something else (from either B3/S234e5i or B3-q4z/S2-n3-q4ez5i or both), but forgot to specify what exactly.

Request taming the following rules, all categorised by their abnormally natural puffers:

Roaming OCA randomly.

I badly want an INT rule with an affinity for diagonal lines. These two rules golfed from LuveelVoom's Bubbles IV rule come close, but there's not enough you can do with the diagonal SLs for them to be interesting. Can someone get closer to having SLs that evolve into new SLs when perturbed, ideally creating larger composite shapes?

Code: Select all

#C [[ RANDOMIZE ]]
x = 50, y = 50, rule = B3air4aceirw567/S2-a3-e4kn
!

Code: Select all

#C [[ RANDOMIZE ]]
x = 50, y = 50, rule = B3air4aceirw567/S2-a3icknyq4cknyq5jek
!
(Also the first rule's type of natural linear growth is definitely nicer than the second rule's)

Here's a p124 shuttle-like statorless oscillator:

Code: Select all

x = 3, y = 4, rule = B2i3-e4c5n6i/S2-i3-a4i7c
o$2o$b2o$2o!
But there are no obvious spaceship I could find. Could the p124 being preserved while adding a common spaceship?

As well as this loop-like failed replicator:

Code: Select all

x = 3, y = 4, rule = B2i3-e4c5n/S2-i3-a4i7c
o$2o$b2o$2o!
Is there any more stable version of this?

This looks like it has some potential for being interesting, but it might be somewhat of an interesting CA-related challenge to articulate why it could be interesting:

Code: Select all

x = 3, y = 4, rule = B2i3-e5n6i/S2-i3-a4i7c8
o$2o$b2o$2o!

Note that the pattern is a non-oscillator predecessor to a p124 oscillator.

Not sure about "preserved", that depends on how far you are willing to go. The given evolutionary sequence can be found unchanged in only two CA of the same type (S8 is an optional survival condition).
Here "CA of the same type" means "two-state isotropic cellular automaton with Moore neighbourhood".
Allowing other types of CA (such as RuleLoader-supported cellular automata) would make things much easier.

Adding the survival condition S6c (i.e., replacing the death rule D6c by the survival rule S6c) makes B-heptomino a predecessor to a p114 orthogonal c/19 spaceship:

Code: Select all

#C [[ GRID THEME MCell TRACKLOOP 114 0/114 6/114 ]]
x = 25, y = 22, rule = B2i3-e4c5n6i/S2-i3-a4i6c7c

Adding the birth condition B8 (i.e., replacing the nonbirth/"abstain" rule A8 by the birth rule B8) makes B-heptomino a predecessor to a p232 diagonal 7c/232 puffer, which can be used to build a corderoid spaceship:

Code: Select all

#C [[ GRID THEME MCell TRACKLOOP 232 7/232 7/232 ]]

I badly want an INT rule with an affinity for diagonal lines. These two rules golfed from LuveelVoom's Bubbles IV rule come close, but there's not enough you can do with the diagonal SLs for them to be interesting. Can someone get closer to having SLs that evolve into new SLs when perturbed, ideally creating larger composite shapes?
Are these the kind of dynamics/still lifes you are looking for? If so, I have also wanted a rule with these kinds of diagonal line dynamics.

Code: Select all
