The p280 U-turner hassler is an oscillator that was discovered by Christopher D'Agostino on August 14, 2023.[1] It was originally found in a 160-cell form which used 34P7s, and was reduced to 86 cells by iNoMed the day after by replacing the p7s with figure eights.[2]

It is the first known engine-based period-280 oscillator that is not a LCM.

A period-140 oscillator can be made by adding another U-turner, shown here:

x = 53, y = 53, rule = B3/S23 16bo$11b2o3b2o$11b2o3b2o$16bo$14bo2bo$14bob3o$13b2o3bo$12bo3b2o$12b3o bo$13bo2bo13bo$14bo14bobo$13b2o3b2o10bo19b2o$13b2o3b2o24b2o4b2o$14bo25b 2ob2obo$39b4obob3o2$43b3obob4o$45bob2ob2o$40b2o4b2o$40b2o2$10bo$9bobo $10bo6b2o$16bobo$15b3o$15b3o17b3o$35b3o$34bobo$34b2o6bo$41bobo$42bo2$ 11b2o$5b2o4b2o$b2ob2obo$4obob3o2$4b3obob4o$6bob2ob2o25bo$b2o4b2o24b2o 3b2o$b2o19bo10b2o3b2o$21bobo14bo$22bo13bo2bo$36bob3o$35b2o3bo$34bo3b2o$34b3obo$35bo2bo$36bo$35b2o3b2o$35b2o3b2o$36bo! #C [[ THUMBSIZE 2 THEME 6 GRID GRIDMAJOR 0 SUPPRESS THUMBLAUNCH ]] #C [[ HEIGHT 600 WIDTH 600 THUMBSIZE 2 ZOOM 10 THEME Book GPS 14 STARTFROM 140 AUTOSTART ]]

A 43-glider synthesis of the p280 with figure eights was found by confocaloid on August 16, 2023.[3][4] On the next day, Chris857 found a 33-glider synthesis of the same version.[5][6] A reduction to 29 gliders was submitted to Catagolue on August 18.[7]
