116P101 is a period-101 oscillator completed on March 17, 2023 by iNoMed based on a partial by Mitchell Riley.[1] It is the first known period-101 oscillator that is not based on adjustable signal loops. With minimum population 116 cells, it is smaller than the previously smallest known oscillator of this period, which has 160 cells and uses a NW-2T16-based 180-degree reflector.[2]
Overall, the oscillator consists of 6 fishhooks, two eater 2s and two blocks hassling the active region, which consists in some phases of two copies of an evolutionary sequence #242 (zero-indexed) in census.rle, which consists of a block plus a bullet heptomino. Another phase of the region is a procrastinator plus a transparent loaf in another area.
A glider synthesis for a variant of the oscillator was found on the day of its discovery.[3][4] On December 10 and December 13, 2023, KtT lowered the synthesis cost to 43[5][6] and then to 42 gliders.[7][8] KtT further lowered the cost to 41 gliders on February 18, 2024.[9][10]
