User talk:H. V. McIntosh/Northeast single shift agar

The revision history for this page claims that it was created by Spam User, but based on the style it appears to have been written by Harold V. Macintosh (who is definitely not a 'spam user').

This suggests that overzealous banning has resulted in a notable Lifenthusiast, H. V. Macintosh, becoming merged with Spam User.

Explanations, prithee? Calcyman (talk) 08:51, 24 May 2018 (UTC)

You seem to be correct, and if true this is indeed as remarkable as it is unfortunate. User merging is done using the UserMerge extension on this wiki, which keeps a log; I'm not seeing H. V. McIntosh in there however, and indeed his account still exists. So this may be in fact just be a DB fluke of some sort.
That, or Harold had several accounts, at least one of which was in fact merged and deleted. Looking at the revision history of User:H. V. McIntosh/Herparium, for instance (which used to live in the main article namespace for many years and which was moved to a user subpage of his to keep it from being deleted outright), there's various edits by both the "H. V. McIntosh" account and a deleted user, and both are quite clearly by Harold.
We may never know, what with not being able to ask him anymore.
Side note --- I have a nagging feeling that the "Herparium" page really does deserve to live in the main article namespace after all; not so much on account of the authority of its creator (as unquestionable as that is) but on account of being interesting, worthwhile, and simply outright on-topic for the LifeWiki. What do others think? Any objections to moving it back? Apple Bottom (talk) 16:18, 14 June 2018 (UTC)
Seconded. I'll move it back into the main namespace if there are no objections. Calcyman (talk) 10:21, 16 June 2018 (UTC)
