Miscellaneous clean rakes in OCA

Post by confocaloid » January 14th, 2025, 8:52 pm

Each rake must be clean (i.e. an object that moves through vacuum and periodically emits escaping spaceships without leaving any debris).

There are no other hard restrictions (in particular, all sorts of cellular automata supported in Golly or in LifeViewer are accepted).
However, please avoid minor/trivial/obvious variations of already posted rakes. Also it's probably more interesting to discover/construct a dozen of different rakes all in a single cellular automaton (and make and post a stamp collection pattern), compared to one rake in each of a dozen of different cellular automata.

There is a similar forum thread for guns: viewtopic.php?f=11&t=5177 "Miscellaneous guns in OCA"
This isn't a competition, unlike the related forum thread viewtopic.php?f=11&t=5214 "INT rule siderake competition"

Here are capped orthogonal 5c/12 rakes, in a CA with extensible p12 orthogonal 5c/12 spaceships (quoted below) and some glider guns posted elsewhere:
  • a p24 double-barrel glider rake (top)
  • a p36 single-barrel rake shooting p6 diagonal c/6 spaceships (bottom)

Did not expect to see an elementary 12c/12 rake for a 2c/10 spaceship in this rule.

Code: Select all

x = 9, y = 4, rule = B2ac3nr5r/S

Currently trying to reduce the big P6 double sparker.

The orthogonal c/2 puffer engine from the B35(78)/S23(8) space or thereabouts [1] can be used for some high-period rakes. In particular, it can be used for glider rakes, in those two-state isotropic cellular automata where B5n isn't a living condition. Here are two examples (there are likely many more):

[1]: "the B35(78)/S23(8) space or thereabouts" simply means those CA where either the same puffer engine or a trivial variation of the engine exists. While "a trivial variation" is not completely objective, one can make good guesses about where to look for rakes/puffers with (a variation of) the same engine. For example, exploring the following subspace of "two-state isotropic CA with Moore neighbourhood" is likely to yield lots of related high-period rakes (some of which may be more interesting than others, either by themselves or due to interesting reactions/components existing in the same CA):

Code: Select all
