Edna is a methuselah with a lifespan of 31192 generations, discovered by Erik de Neve on January 10, 2010, using Nathaniel Johnston's soup search script,[1] being the first such pattern to be found with a longevity greater than that of Lidka. At the time, it was the second longest-lived known methuselah to fit within a 20×20 bounding box after Fred, but new patterns which last longer, such as Wilma, have now surfaced.
The pattern is named after Methuselah's wife, Edna.
Stable pattern
The stable pattern that results from Edna (excluding 58 escaping gliders) has 3312 cells and consists of 231 blocks, 229 blinkers (including 20 traffic lights), 140 beehives (including six honey farms), 50 boats, 50 loaves, 12 ponds, 11 ships, 11 tubs, two long boats, one barge, one eater 1, one mango, one ship-tie, and one toad.
