52513M is a methuselah with a lifespan of 52513 generations, discovered by Dylan Chen on January 16, 2021, using apgsearch.[1] It is currently the longest-lasting known non-infinitely-growing[note 1] methuselah within a 16×16 square, being found just a week after the previous record-holder, 50093M. On January 17, Adam P. Goucher found a 27-cell variant lasting 52444 generations, which is shown below.[5]

Notes

  1. An infinitely growing soup which "goes boring" after 133100 generations due to a backwards-firing stream of gliders was found by Rob Liston on May 12, 2019;[2] however, this is often not counted as a methuselah.[3] Another soup, based on a crystal reaction, was found by Liston on May 29, 2020 lasting 10,514,926 generations.[4]
